Spiral Wine Cellars

28Jan09

I stumbled upon a great post on the Kitchn (a sister site to Apartment Therapy) featuring spiral wine cellars for the home accessible through a trap door. The images are fantastic and the idea of a little wine cellar just below your feet speaks to the romantic in me.

Using the earth as a natural insulator combined with passive ventilation, the Spiral Cellar maintains a temp of about 55° F, ideal for storing your wines. The cellar is dug and installed by a professional, takes a fraction of the space of a conventional cellar and adds an air of mystique to your chosen installation location. (I love the featured cellar in the kitchen!) Like many of my fantasy indulgences, the Spiral Cellar has quite a price tag… starting at about $30,ooo.
