The Essential Guide for Visiting Paris

09Feb09

I know I just posted an entry about books, but I’ve been knee-deep in book buying so there was one title I couldn’t NOT mention. If you are ever planning a trip to Paris, the pocket sized book “Plan de Paris par Arrondissement” (Map of Paris by Arrondissement/Neighborhood) is the essential guide for navigating the city.

Continually updated, the book features small neighborhood maps as well as larger pull-out maps of both the city and all public transportation. The best part of the book is the street search feature. Know only the address but have no real idea of where it is located? Use the “rue” section in the back to search by street name then number. You will be guided to neighborhood and advised of the closest metro and bus stops.

I bought a copy in Paris for about 10€ but you can also purchase before your trip on Ebay, Amazon and other bookseller sites.

There is also a great overview of all the previous editions (for those of you who like antique books)… very cool:  http://www.trussel.com/parismaps/parismaps.htm
