The World of Ornament

Another book recommendation!

Taschen consistently publishes some of the best books around. No matter what the topic, the final product is always a beautiful, very well put together book that could be a work of art in itself.

A recent purchase of mine is The World of Ornament. This giant book (almost 18″ tall and quite heavy) is a dream. This book pays hommage to patterns and ornamentam designs from antiquity to the 19th century. The breadth of images is awe-inspiring: jewelry, art, manuscripts, ancient textiles, etc. on large glossy pages in full color. Your creativity is sure to be sparked.

The book is a bit pricey ($120 on Amazon.. a bargain compared to the Taschen price of $200) but is worth every penny. Included in the back is a CD of high-resolution images for every pattern in the book, copyright free and ready to use! The uses for these are endless: silkscreened drapery, china patterns, graphics for textiles or papers… You will not be disappointed.
